Obituaries & Tributes
1931 - 2021
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Zenovia. Mom was born in Innisfree, Alberta, June 11th, 1931, and passed away June 12th 2021 a day after her 90th birthday.
Zenovia grew up on a farm northeast of Innisfree, the youngest of ten children. She met my dad, Edward, in Innisfree and they were married in 1949, and farmed north of Innisfree until 2006. Raising five kids, mom was always busy cleaning, cooking, baking, gardening, canning and endless laundry. Mom was a great seamstress, sewing lots of beautiful clothing for us. She also made many gorgeous cross-stitch works and at one point devoted time to ceramics, cake decorating and flower arranging. Mom was a natural musician, often jamming on the organ while dad played the saxophone. It's then no surprise that they were both gifted dancers as well, and loved spreading their magic at the local dances. Mom always enjoyed visiting, playing cards and sipping Baby Duck sparkling wine with her family and friends. But most of all, mom was a superb cook. She always went out of her way cooking up an array of Ukrainian food and heaps of goodies to always make Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas so very special. We will truly miss those family gatherings.
Mom is survived by her five children, Kathy, Daniel (Linda), Jeanette, Mike and Marlene, and four grandchildren, Dallas, Daymon, Dryden and Josie. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Zenovia is predeceased by her husband Edward, her son-in-law James, her parents John and Marie, brothers Nick, Pete, Paul, Nestor and Marshall, and sisters Anne, Olga, Rose and Helen.
As per mom's request, there will be no funeral, but a link to a video of her life is listed below. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any animal rescue of one’s choice.
